RC Update Week 2

(Week 2)
Greetings North Park AYSO players and parents,

Even with the cross-country meet going on at the same time, we were still able to get all games done at Morley Field with very few delays.  This weekend should be better, in terms of parking.

Here are some of my updates for this week:

No dogs inside fenced playing area during AYSO events

I noticed several people out at Morley Field on Saturday with their dogs despite the signs we put up at the entrances stating that dogs are NOT allowed during AYSO events.  It’s for the safety of our children that we ask that you keep your dog(s) outside the Morley Field fenced area during our AYSO events.  If you see other people inside the fenced area with dogs, please remind them of our policy and ask them to take the dogs outside the fenced area, or else you can let one of our referees or board members know and we’ll be happy to intervene.

Picture Day – Sunday 9/24

Don’t forget about picture day on Sunday.  Pictures are taken on the grassy area just to the west of the playground.  Your coach has the time schedules.  Although there is a schedule available, contact your coach since he or she has the most up-to-date times for your team.  I’m also attaching a copy for you to download.

Our picture vendor stays on schedule and moves things along quickly.  Please instruct your teams to be at Morley Field at least 15 minus before your appointed time in full uniform (cleats and shin guards not needed) and with the photo form completely filled out.  There is a "League Package" that was included in the registration fee.

I don't know yet if there will be a make-up day or not.  We've historically done one a few weeks later.  Please stick to the schedule and DO NOT show up earlier than scheduled.

Friday Field Painting Sessions:

We are looking for some volunteers to help paint the fields on Friday mornings (9:00 – 11:00am or something close to those times).  If we have 2-3 people, the job can get done in less than 2 hours.  If you’ve got Friday mornings available, please consider volunteering to paint our fields so we don’t have to do it during our Region’s practice sessions Friday evening.  Let me ([email protected]) and Sandy Keaton ([email protected]) know and we’ll coordinate with you.

Open Position: Storage Container and Field Manager

We are looking for a volunteer field manager to take ownership of our fields and our container shed. This person would be the point of contact for everything from equipment storage to field measurements.  If you’re up to the task, please contact me at [email protected]

Snack Shack Volunteer Sign-Ups

Consider volunteering for the snack-shack.  If you have any questions, contact Terri at: [email protected]

Regional Schedules

You can see your regional schedule on your Blue Sombrero team page, but if you’d like to see the other schedules (U10-U19), you can visit the same page our referees use for signing up for matches.  It will list all games (home and away) for U10-U14, but it only lists our home games for U16-U19

By the way, this is the same site you would go to sign up to referee our games.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer referee, please contact our Ref Administrator at [email protected]

Full U16-U19 Schedules

To see the full U16-U19 schedules, go to the Tri-Area level referee scheduler site.

Standings for 10U and Older

For the teams in 10U and older, there is a post-season tournament in Area 11R (consists of NP, Tierrasanta, Kearny Mesa, Mira Mesa, San Marcos, San Elijo, and Carlsbad regions).  We get one automatic qualification to that tournament which we award to the top team in each division at the close of regular season play on 11/11.  We will publish the current standings later this week.  We keep standings by points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss).  If you see a score discrepancy, please contact [email protected] to get it fixed.

11/18 NP AYSO Single Elimination Tournament Open to All Groups

We will once again be holding the annual single elimination tournament (we will be announcing the tournament name soon) on 11/18.  For those who are new to the league, we play this March Madness bracket style on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  It's open to the U6-U14 age groups.  Look for more information in the coming weeks.  But please make a mental note of it now and pass it along to your teams.  It's not mandatory that your team play in this; it's totally optional.  The first games will begin at 8 am.  Since it's single elimination, it's either win and play on or loss and go home.  Depending on how many teams from each division participate, some teams could play 3-4 games on that day.  We shorten the games to accommodate for the tight schedules.

For the 10U, 12U, and 14U division, IF we get a wild card entry to the Area 11R tournament mentioned above, then we award that wild card to the winner of the Single Elimination Tournament.  That way every team has a chance to advance.  The league provides medals to the winners.

Field Equipment Set-Up and Break-Down

Please remember that if you have the first game of the day on a field, then you are required to get to MF early to help set up.  If you have the last game of the day on a field, then you need to break down the equipment and move it to the storage box.

Referee Appreciation Program

This season, we continue our Referee Appreciation Program.  This program is for all our referees, but it’s especially targeted towards our youth referees.  This season’s appreciation program will be AMC movie tickets for points earned by refereeing games.  Here’s how the program will work:

-          Youth referee must be 12 years or older
-          The point system will be 1 point for AR, and 2 points for Center Referee
-          It takes 8 points to earn 1 movie ticket
-          Junior referees can only do games for age groups less than or equal to their own age group, i.e. U12 player can do U12 or U10 games.
-          At the end of each month, referees can redeem points for movie tickets.  For example, if a referee has 24 points, then he/she will earn 3 movie tickets at the end of the month.
-          Any remaining points carried forward will be applied towards the next month.

So if you and/or your child are interested in being part of our referee program, please send an e-mail to [email protected] and let him know you want to volunteer to be a referee (youth or adult).  Being a referee makes you smarter, as a player, because you really know the rules/laws of the game.  This is also a great way to give back to our community.  Additionally, you can earn volunteer service hours for your school or job.  This referee appreciation program is just one way for us to thank our volunteer referees for the hard work they do every weekend!  Please make sure you thank them also.

See you on the field!

Take care,

Chhem Young-Pen
